2015: Evelyn Glennie
We are very excited to be working with Dame Evelyn Glennie!
Evelyn lives in Cambridgeshire and is a world famous percussionist. Evelyn is the first person in history to successfully create and sustain a full time career as a solo percussionist, performing worldwide with the greatest conductors, orchestras and artists. She had a leading role in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
To this day, Evelyn continues to invest in realising her vision – To Teach the World to Listen - while looking to open a centre that embodies her mission:
"to improve communication and social cohesion by encouraging everyone to discover new ways of listening. We want to inspire, to create, to engage and to empower”.
Evelyn was awarded an OBE in 1993, Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2007 and the Polar Music Prize 2015.
Her work fits perfectly with this year’s primary special category of the BBC’s 10 Pieces* and we’re thrilled that she has agreed to work with us during the festival and appearing as a VIP guest at the Primary Awards Ceremony at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Thursday 9th July 2015.
Members of the team recently met with Evelyn. See the clips from the recorded session to find out more about this "barrier-breakingly awesome" percussionist (The List, 2015) and to help you plan your film soundtrack. These film clips are brought to you through sponsorship from Virgin Media Business.
*The final submission deadline is Wednesday 27th May 2015 (during half term week).
